Hello. I was wondering what the simplest solution for what I am trying to accomplish. I basically just want to be able to edit a pattern while another is playing so that in a live environment, I can prepare an on the fly improvised pattern to transition to from my currently playing pattern. I recognize there are ways to do this by chaining two patterns together and selecting another pattern to edit while the others play, but sometimes I do not necessarily want to be working on a chained pattern and like the 16 step/one page maximum length.

I have also encountered what may be a bug. While editing a pattern that is not playing, if I change a tracks track length, there is a slight hesitation of that track in the currently PLAYING pattern, and I hear it fall a step or two behind the rest of the sequence.

We are trying to add new short keys / custom buttons to the EME to make the difference between 'next pattern to edit' and 'next pattern to play'.

We have to decide yet.

@alex

I'm working on it.
Maybe a release a beta version soon, for the forum users so it can be tested for those who want.

That would be great - I also miss that function that allows me to edit a pattern, while the other keeps on playing.
With pattern copy some things do not work out so well in a live in stage surrounding.

Does not work for me, as the duplicated pattern is always played while editing.

OK! 🙂 will study the possibility to add the different assignment for 'next pattern to play' and 'next pattern to edit' in the EME shortcuts while being in single pattern play

It's already done ! 🙂 it will be in the next fw release. I have kept 'next/previous pattern' as it was (act as 'to play' in single pattern and as 'to edit' in pattern chain or song) and I have added 'next/previous pattern edit' that will act as 'to edit' in all the situations.

Hi @wintermodular

Sorry after reading the manual and the forum I'm still unclear if it is possible to edit a pattern while another is playing. Its seems if I go into the song menu, switch the song modus on it just repeats the first pattern. I can than with (function selector knob) jump into a pattern to edit. If I than go back to pattern module (function + Pattern) it is seems like the sequencer leaves song mode.

Anyhow, I'm confused it there a good way to play pattern e.g. 1 to 3 and edit pattern 4 without playing it as I would like to do all of this in a life.

Thanks.

Hi @joa23 !

There are different ways to do so:

- While being playing a sequence of pattern using 'quick pattern chain' 'song' or 'song part'. For example:

  - You create a 'quick pattern chain' ( go to Pattern mode, and press step 1 and step 3, so you create A1-A2-A3 loop )
  - The sequencer is playing A1-A2-A3 in loop
  - Then you go any of the step edition modes (CV, GATE, GATE LEN, RAT...)
  - Then you can use the pattern change short cut ( FUNC + Encoder ) and go to pattern A4, so you will be able to edit A4 while de A1-A2-A3 loop is playing.

The same procedure can be applied to SONG of SONG PARTS modes (the way to create it is different)

- Using the EME (Eloquencer MIDI Expansion). You can customize the EME buttons and choose 'previous pattern to edit' and 'next pattern to edit'. This can be used while playing group of pattern or even while playing a single pattern (@maikschott Is this the feature you were looking for? ) This feature is only available in the new beta firmware update (1.3.9) that can be found in this forum.
